About José Costa, Consultant Paediatrician

Dr José Costa runs several allergy clinics in Leamington Spa and Oxford - focusing on the diagnosis and management of Food Allergy, Hayfever, Allergic Rhinitis, Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and Angioedema, Eczema, Asthma and MCAS. He's also a member of the Royal College Of Paediatrics and Child Health and the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

He is a member of the Core Group of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Standards of Care Committee.

He has been appointed to become an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Allergy at Warwick Medical School.

Recently he has been appointed as a Member of the Paediatric Advisory Group for Mast Cell Action.

He is also the National and Regional (Warwickshire) advisor for Children & Young People and Allergy for the Nuffield Hospitals.

His primary focus of interest in Allergy is in immunotherapy and desensitization, mainly to house dust mites and pollens - both sublingual and subcutaneous. José is the co-author of a study titled “Increase in Multiple Nut Reactivity with Increasing Age is Not an Artefact of Incomplete Allergy Testing”, which explored the introduction of nuts into an infant/child's diet. This research found that not introducing nuts that children are not allergic to will increase their risk of developing allergy to those nuts later in life.

Outside of the clinic, Dr Costa has a keen interest in researching and teaching paediatric allergies and is currently researching diagnostic tools for non-IgE mediated food allergies.
